Why does construction dust take more than one pass to clear?
Drywall and sanding dust is extremely fine and light, so wiping or vacuuming one surface stirs it back into the air, where it drifts and settles again on surfaces you already cleaned. That is normal and it is why a proper post construction clean is staged rather than done in a single wipe. We work top to bottom to limit it, then check for resettling before we finish, and on a bigger remodel we plan for a second pass so the space actually stays clean instead of hazing over again an hour later.
How is this different from a normal deep clean?
A deep clean tackles built up grime in a home that has been lived in, soap scum, oven grease, grout that has darkened over years. Post construction cleaning is about the specific fallout of building work, fine powder over everything, sticker and adhesive residue, paint and compound specks, and debris in places a lived in home never accumulates. The methods and the risks are different too, since we are working around brand new finishes that scratch and mark easily. If your West Hills home is simply overdue rather than freshly remodeled, a deep clean is the service you want, and we will tell you so.
When should the clean happen after the contractor finishes?
The best time is once the last dusty trade is done, sanding, cutting, and painting all complete, and the crew has removed their materials. If we come in while trim is still being cut or a final coat is still going up, we end up cleaning dust that is still being made. Tell us the projected finish date when you book and we will line the visit up so you get one clean that holds rather than several that keep getting undone.
How do you protect new floors and finishes?
Carefully and with the right products for each surface. New hardwood, tile, fresh grout, and new countertops each want a different, gentle approach rather than aggressive scrubbing, and glass and polished fixtures scratch if you drag grit across them. We lift dust before wiping so we are not grinding it into a surface, and we use appropriate cleaners on delicate finishes. If a material is still curing or the contractor left specific care instructions, let us know and we will follow them.
Does the fine dust really get into vents and cabinets?
Yes, it gets everywhere air moves. Registers, vents, and returns pull powder in, and the inside of every new cabinet and drawer collects a layer even when the doors were shut, because dust this fine slips through any gap. Window and sliding door tracks are another spot that stays dusty long after open surfaces look clean. We open and wipe cabinets and drawers, clear the tracks, and address vents and registers as part of the job, not as an extra you have to ask for.
Can you remove stickers, paint specks, and adhesive residue?
Yes, that is a standard part of post construction work. New windows, appliances, and glass usually arrive with manufacturer stickers, and a build leaves behind paint spots, drywall compound flecks, and smears of caulk or adhesive. We lift all of that without gouging or clouding the surface underneath. Very stubborn or cured residue sometimes needs extra time or a second look, and we will be straight with you about anything that does not come off cleanly.
Is post construction cleaning one visit or several?
It depends on the size and how much dust the project threw off. A single remodeled room can often be handled in one thorough visit. A whole home renovation or a new build usually needs more than one pass, because dust keeps resettling as the air clears over the following day. We give you an honest read up front on whether one visit will do it or whether a second pass makes sense, so there are no surprises.
Can you coordinate with my contractor?
Yes. Plenty of contractors and homeowners bring us in to handle the final cleanup so the crew can move to the next project, and we are happy to work to their schedule and their access arrangements. Tell us who to coordinate with, when the site will be ready, and how we get in, whether that is a lockbox, a gate code, or someone meeting us there, and we will fit around the tail end of the build.
Do you handle a whole home remodel differently from a single room?
Yes. A single finished room is a contained job, we can seal it off in our approach and clear it in one focused pass. A whole home remodel means dust has traveled well beyond the rooms that were worked on, into hallways, adjacent rooms, and the air throughout, so it takes a more staged plan and often a second pass. We scope the estimate to what actually got built, so a one room kitchen redo and a full gut renovation are not priced or planned the same way.
Do you clean up after new construction, not just remodels?
Yes. West Hills has both, older homes being renovated and updated, and newer builds going up on the hillside and gated tracts, and both leave the same fine building dust and debris behind. Whether it is a fresh addition, a rebuilt kitchen, or a brand new home waiting to be moved into, the post construction clean is the pass that gets it ready for furniture and daily life.
What are your hours, and how do I book?
We are available Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm. Call or text (818) 414-8012, or email honestmaidsla@gmail.com. Describe the project, the size of the space, and when the work wraps, and we give you a free estimate and set a date. No card is needed to book.
Do you bring your own supplies and equipment?
Yes, all of it. Vacuums, cloths, products suited to new finishes, and everything else comes with us. Post construction work leans on the right vacuums and the right cleaners for delicate new surfaces, and we arrive equipped for that. If your project involved a particular material that needs a specific product, tell us in advance and we will bring it.
Are your cleaners your own team, or subcontractors?
Our own. Every cleaner is screened and trained by us, and we never hand the work to an outside crew. That matters on a fresh build, where new finishes need people who will treat them with care rather than a rotating set of strangers who do not know the site.
What if dust resettles after you leave?
Some resettling in the first day is normal on a large project as the last of the airborne dust comes down, which is exactly why we discuss whether a second pass is needed before we finish. If something was genuinely missed, tell us. Every visit carries a satisfaction guarantee, and a text to (818) 414-8012 is the fastest way to reach us so we can put it right.
How much does post construction cleaning in West Hills cost?
The honest answer is that the price depends on the size of the home, the number of bathrooms, whether this is a first visit or a regular one, and how the home has been used up to now. That is why every job starts with a free written estimate rather than a flat rate lifted off a website. Text or call (818) 414-8012 with the number of bedrooms and bathrooms and roughly what you need, and we send a real figure back, usually the same day. Every price is agreed before we start, nothing lands on you at the end, and no card is needed to hold the slot.
Are your cleaners insured, bonded, and background checked?
Yes. Honest Maids is a licensed and insured family owned company based in Reseda, and every cleaner on our team is our own employee, screened and trained by us before their first visit. Nothing is subcontracted, so the person who arrives at your door in West Hills is on our payroll, in our uniform, and covered by our insurance. We are happy to share our license and insurance details before your first clean if you want to see them, and many building managers ask for a certificate of insurance on file.
What products do you use, and are they safe for pets and children?
We bring every supply and machine with us for every visit, so nothing has to be set out. Our standard kit uses products that are safe around pets and children, and where a surface calls for a stronger product (such as a heavily soiled oven or serious mineral buildup) we tell you first and use the mildest option that will do the job. If you prefer a specific brand, a fragrance free product, or a completely green line, tell us in the booking and we will use what you have. The choice is yours.
How far in advance should I book, and can you come the same day?
For a regular clean in West Hills we can usually reach you the same week, and a small job can sometimes fit into the same day. Move outs and post construction jobs need a little more lead time because they run longer, so book those a few days out when you can. The fastest way to check availability is a text. We are staffed Monday to Saturday, eight in the morning to six in the evening, and a message outside those hours is answered the next working morning.
What forms of payment do you accept, and when do I pay?
You pay after the clean is complete, once you have walked the home and everything is right. We take card, bank transfer, Zelle, cash, or check, whichever is easiest. Recurring customers are usually set up on a saved card that runs automatically after each visit, but that is optional and there is no card on file for a first visit. If you ever have a question about a charge, one text and we sort it out that day.
What is your satisfaction guarantee, and how does it work?
Every visit carries a plain guarantee: if something is not right, tell us within seven days and we come back to fix it, at no charge. We do not ask you to argue for it or fill out a form. We would rather return and put it right than leave a customer in West Hills feeling like they paid for something they did not get. That is one of the reasons regular customers stay with us, and it is the standard the reviews are talking about.
Do I need to be home during the clean?
Only if you want to be. Many customers in West Hills give us access through a code, a key with a neighbor, a lockbox, or a building doorman, and come home to a finished house. Others prefer to stay. Either way is fine, and we walk the space with you or send a note with a few photos before we leave, so nothing is a surprise. If the building has parking rules or a call box, tell us in the booking and we handle it from there.
How many passes does a post construction clean take, and why?
Post construction cleaning is scoped as a rough pass and a final detail pass at minimum, because construction dust is much finer than household dust and stays suspended for days after work stops. A single wipe redeposits about half of what it lifts. The rough pass removes bulk debris and heavy dust. The final pass, run after the dust settles, wipes every surface again, including behind fixtures, inside cabinets, windows, tracks, grout, and vents. Heavy jobs sometimes need a third pass, and we scope that on the written estimate.
Do you haul away construction debris?
We remove bagged trash, packaging, protective coverings, and light construction leftovers as part of the clean. Large debris (broken drywall sections, pallets, tile offcuts, appliances) is not part of a standard scope, but we can arrange a debris haul at cost if you tell us in the booking. That way one team handles the site, and the property is truly ready to hand over.
When is it safe for a family to move back into a home after a remodel?
Once the final detail pass is complete and the air has cleared. That usually means the day after the last pass for a room level remodel, and a day or two after for a whole home remodel with heavy dust. If anyone in the household has respiratory sensitivities, we recommend running the HVAC on a fresh filter for a day before move in, and we can add a vent and filter clean to the scope so the system is not blowing residual dust.
