Tarzana sits in the south central San Fernando Valley, with Ventura Boulevard running straight through the middle of it as the main spine. That one boulevard splits the city into two fairly different worlds. North of it the ground stays flat, and the blocks off Reseda Boulevard, Lindley Avenue, and Mecca Avenue hold more modest single family homes along with a good number of apartments. South of Ventura the land begins to rise, and streets such as Wells Drive wind upward toward Mulholland Drive, where the houses grow larger and sit on hillside lots. We are based just north in Reseda, so reaching either half of Tarzana is a short local drive for us rather than a trip across town.
The name itself is a piece of local history. The author Edgar Rice Burroughs kept a ranch on this land and named the area after his Tarzan character, and the neighborhood carried the name forward. What that left behind is a wide spread of home types, from compact flatland houses and rentals on the valley floor to sprawling multi story properties on the winding hill roads.
